Confessions of a Bookaholic

I just got home from the bookstore with my latest loot - John Grisham's Ford Country Stories. Two weeks ago, I purchased JG's The Associate. I was not happy with my purchases. Nabitin ako. I want another book or two or maybe three or four. Ah! Too many books, too little time.

I'm Cristina dela Cruz and I'm a bookaholic.

My love affair with books started years back and I mean way, way back when I was six or seven years old. I'm 31, by the way. My first lover was this rather old and thick book of assorted stories from Rapunzel to Pippi Longstocking to the Musicians of Bremen. It was love at first sight, so to speak. From them on, I've had affairs with various genres and authors. I've turned the pages of a few classics like Tolstoy's Anna Karenina and Buck's The Good Earth. I've flipped the pages of comic books like Waterson's Calvin and Hobbes and graphic novels like Gaiman's Preludes and Nocturnes. I mostly read foreign authors, but I have also read books published by Summit (i.e. the publisher of Cosmo Philippines, Smart Parenting, etc). I've read e-books, too.

I collected Sweet Valley Twins on my pre-teenage years and shifted to Sweet Valley High and Sweet Dreams in high school, which I sold and now regret BIG time. I have currently completed my Grisham collection with my acquisition of Ford Country Stories. I plan to continue collecting Nancy Drew for old time's sake. I read them voraciously as a grade school student at UPIS.

Before I fell in-love with my husband, I was in-love with Lestat (Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire). And now, he shares my love with Jacob Black (Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Series). Hahaha.

I've read extensively, but I've not read enough. Madami pa akong gustong basahin at idagdag sa collection ko. A library is a pre-requisite when Jowell and I build our own home. It will be my sanctuary, my temporary escape from reality when life gets too tough for me to handle.

Life is tough. Money is hard-earned. With two children to take care of, books have become a luxury, my luxury. Indulge me.
