Thursday Thunks No. 04

My share for this week:

1. Have you ever felt alone, but yet there are people around you? Oh, yes! This usually happens when I'm at new place, say a mall, and I don't know where I'm supposed to go.

2. Do you have any video game consoles? Which ones? Not mine personally, but my little brother's. A Sony PSP slim in lavender.

3. Do you freak out at food warnings/outbreaks, such as the recent peanut butter salmonella scare? Now that I'm a mom, yes. The China milk scare really made me paranoid.

4. What color/pattern is your beds' comforter/bedspread? Stripes in yellow, blue, red, and white.

5. How many windows do you have in your house? We have over 10 windows.

6. Name six things that are in your bathroom. a tabo, a tube of toothpaste, shampoos, Albatross bathroom deodorizer and toothbrushes

Images are from their respective websites.

7. How big is your garage? Should it be bigger? I'm bad with measurements. Ugh! It's a little bigger than your average 1-car garage space. Yes, bigger is better.

8. Got your taxes done yet? The office does it for us.

9. Think of a mental disorder..... why did you think of that particular one? Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. I thought of this one because I think I have one, a mild case though.

Love to read yours.

I did a good deed today, but I'm not so proud of it as there were some hesitations involved. You see, our little boy is growing up big and fast. He has some old clothes and socks that no longer fit him. We were supposed to give to my nephews, but decided against it. May kalumaan na kasi kaya nahiya ako. I decided to give these na lng to our office's outreach program. Before I left the house this morning, I checked the stuff again and I was hesitating to give it na. Mostly were MiLo's firsts - first pair of socks, first bonnet, etc, etc. But this voice inside my head convinced me otherwise. OK, I got a pair of socks as a souvenir.

When I got to the office, I dropped it in the charity box with the rest of the donations. I thought I had everything settled. On my mealbreak, I took a peek inside the box and was so happy to find the paperbag was still there. I was so tempted to get it back. Not out of selfishness, but I felt that I was giving a part of MiLo to some strangers and that saddened me. Of course, I did not take it. Out of shame na lng, db? Two hours later, I checked it again and it was not there na. Nalungkot ako, I swear. On the other hand, I felt happy na din because I know, somewhere out there, another baby will find comfort in MiLo's socks and bonnet.

Weird ko ba? :P

My Mean Streak

Please read only if YOU are NOT pikon. This could be YOU. Hahaha.

Forgive me for ranting. I'm just so pissed off. BIG time. As in nanginginig ako sa galit kanina pang umaga! You know me. I'm a person who doesn't get affected with negativity too easily. Read here. But, it doesn't mean that I don't get affected at all.

I texted the office's hotline early today as there was a family emergency that I needed to attend to. We needed to bring a family member to the hospital. I wouldn't elaborate on that as it's NOT my story to tell. Anyway, who ever was handling the shift phone at that time, texted back asking me if it was I who was on emergency or someone else. They don't usually text back so I was a little surprised. I found the text a little off, stupid even. If I remember right, the message I sent mentioned a FAMILY emergency. Obviously, it was not me and if it was me, how can I text and inform our hotline myself that I was in an emergency, di ba? I mean, mamatay na lang ako, eh, ako pa ba mismo ang magi-inform sa kanila? Tanga ba sila o tanga ba sila? Out of courtesy, I texted back and informed them again that we rushed a family member to the hospital. I mentioned the reason to them.

She texted back. I had a feeling that them was she and she was either her or her, but I'm betting it's her. Ang gulo. Hahaha. Anyway, she replied, that I had the same excuse last week and we have reached the 10% rate of absenteeism. She asked me if I can come to the office later instead. While I care for the team, I care for the family member more. Moreover, for her information, the incident last week was entirely different. Last week, there was an alarming incident, but no confinement was needed yet. Last night, the inevitable has happened. Yes, the emergency involved the same person and the principal cause was the same, but the conclusion was different. I told her that I can't.

She replied that I needed to present documents again to verify my excuse. Damn it! As if I'm just making an excuse. Who in their right mind will make up a story involving a family member in an emergency? BS! Digital na kaya ang karma ngayon!!! At this point, I felt that blood rushed from my head out of anger. I was exhausted and pressured and she accuses me of making up an excuse at 6:30 in the morning. I told her "no problem" (re: documents) and that she can even call the hospital to verify. I even volunteered our doctor's mobile number for her contentment. That ended our conversation.

You see, I'm not a chronic absentee. With my previous TL's anyway. Until I got pregnant and gave birth, I rarely file a vacation and/or sick leave unless necessary. If she doesn't know, VLs are our priviledge. We have a responsibilty to the team, but we also have a life outside of the office. Kung opisina ang pamilya nya, hindi ko problema yun. One more thing, it's not as if I went to the beach and basked in the sun while sipping some local alcoholic drink. Oh, please. I was not on a vacation. I was at the hospital.

I've been responsible for all my actions career-wise. I was late 3x, had an unexcused absence once, and they served me an NTE (Notice to Explain) without any resentment from me. I know I was in the wrong and I ought to face the consequences, which I did. I think I deserve more credit that what she has given me.

In fairness to me, I've been truthful with her with regard to my previous absences. Some reasons were even too personal pero I shared it her in spite of the fact na baka i-chismis niya or something. I just felt na as my superior, she at least had some right to know para maiintindihan nya where I'm coming from and that's what I got. I was offended more than hurt. Hindi ako ma-dramang tao unless naapektuhan talaga ako.

In fairness to her, she nodded to most of the team's requests. Maski masama siguro sa loob nya, pumapayag na lng siya. I understand that we have a compliance to adhere to and a team member's action reflects on their ratings. If we fail, they fail. Our rating is their rating. Ang sa akin lang, make us happy and you will be happy. Ganun ka-simple.

Today's incident has upped my eagerness to look elsewhere and to leave the work I used to love. In the process, I'll be leaving my friends, too, but I know we'll keep in touch. If I only had an option...

Random Thoughts on a Saturday

The start of 2009 has been crazy. Well, at least for me. I haven't been my usual self, which is happy and optimistic. I even thought I was even suffering from post-partum depression and a case of separation anxiety from MiLo. The funny thing is I've given birth almost nine months ago. I guess I was just having an episode of post-holiday blues.

Since I started with Sutherland in 2006, I've always looked forward to going to work even if I had to wake up at 3:30 in the morning. I enjoyED work then, but lately it's been a drag. Waking up at 4:30AM (I now have a 7AM-4PM shift) has become tedious. I would make excuses to absent myself at work. I have suddenly developed a severe case of "work allergy". At the office, I would do what is expected of me, but with much resentment. I'd rather be anywhere than at the office.

I had a serious talk with my TL one day and discussed what's "wrong" with me. I told her as much as I could without really exposing my private life to a stranger. I told her I wanted to take a Leave of Absence as I was so burnt out from the office. I'm not sure if she understood me, but I felt better after talking to her.

Resignation is not an option until May 2009. There's Jowell's graduation and MiLo's 1st birthday to think of. Yes, I'm looking for other options, but I've no definite plans yet. Wish me luck.

And then, there are more important things in life than work like FAMILY. My little family is A-OK. Jowell is graduating from nursing school soon and MiLo's turning 9 months old this January 27th. Aside from the sipon, ubo, and lagnat he had a few days before the New Year, he's all better. His 2 teeth are starting to show.

And speaking of Jowell and MiLo, one Saturday, probably last Saturday, Jowell and I took MiLo to the mall to get him socks. It was our first time to go malling just the 3 of us. It was quite an experience. We dined at Shakey's and MiLo had his share of our meal. He had chocolate sundae. Seriously, we feed him anything and he eats everything.

He likes Wendy's Frosty, Mcdonald's chocolate sundae, and Shakey's paper tray lining. Hahaha. See the video to believe.

MiLo enjoying his tray liner.

More of little MiLo, since we don't have a spare room to convert as his playroom, we turned a small area in our library as his temporary playground. With all his toys, it's not surprising if the living room serves as an extension.

I was browsing Mama's mobile phone the last time and I saw MiLo's 1st picture in a grocery cart. LOL It's just too adorable not to share.

Isn't he just adorable? And he's still adorable even if he's dirty from eating.

One fine Saturday, Mama decided to have our afternoon snack in the front yard. We used to do it when we were little and though it looks kind of tacky now, I kind of missed it. I brings back good memories of my childhood.

Before I expose my son too much, haha, I've finally got my very 1st pair of Crocs courtesy of Jing's online store. You see my feet are too big that the local Crocs stores do not carry my size. Unfair, but with online seller's like Jing, who cares? Not me.

Oh, what big feet I have!

I'm glad that I'm back to my old jolly self. I've got 300++ more days to make-up for the lost times I've spent wallowing. Cheers to me for bouncing back.

Jumping Fun

MiLo's first birthday is coming up soon and since we noticed that he loves to jump, his Yaddy and I are thinking of getting him a trampoline. It's not available locally and we'll be ordering from one of our favorite online sellers. We wanted to get him a Jumperoo previously, but decided against it. Before we spend our hard-earned money on this, I need your opinions. Is this worth it and most importantly, is it safe? Help.

Photos are from their respective websites.
