Hiloscan

For some time, I was a little sad because my blog has been up for over a 100 days and I've not received a single comment on any of my posts. I check my dashboard every single day and I've no alert that I have a pending comment. When I got back to work today, I received an email from Vayie asking me why I haven't approved their comments. She thought I thought their comments were offensive. That was not the case indeed. You see, my comment host is Haloscan. I just figure out now that, naturally, I would not receive an alerts on my dashboard. So, I signed and there are 20 or so comments to be moderated. Geez! Thanks, Vayie for pointing that out and for being the first one to leave a comment on 08.28.08. Gawd! It took me three months to approve it. Pathetic.

To all those who have left comments, these are all truly appreciated. I'd still love to hear from you. No worries, I now know to check my Haloscan on a regular basis.

Stay parpolised.

Naturally, I was unsuccessful. I'm still trying, though. Maybe tomorrow.

Prayers for Soon-to-be-Moms

As we are all aware of, giving birth is like having a foot in a grave. That's a little morbid, I know, but it's definitely not a walk in the park. I tell you. Been there, done that. So, as a gift for soon-to-be mommies, I'm sharing with you a site and prayers recommended by a n@wie sister.

Saint Gerard Majella
(Feast day: October 16)
The Patron Saint of Motherhood

Prayers to Saint Gerard

Prayer for Motherhood
O good St Gerard, powerful intercessor before God and wonder worker of our day, confidently I call upon you and seek your aid. On Earth you always fulfilled God's designs, help me now to do the holy will of God. Implore the Master of Life, from whom all paternity proceeds, to render me fruitful in offspring, that I may raise up children to God in this life, and in the world to come, heirs to the Kingdom of His Glory.
Amen.

Prayer for a Safe Delivery
O great Saint Gerard, beloved servant of Jesus Christ, perfect imitator of your meek and humble Savior, and devoted child of Mother of God, enkindle within my heart one spark of that heavenly fire of charity which glowed in your heart and made you an angel of love.
O glorious Saint Gerard, because when falsely accused of crime, you did bear, like your Divine Master, without murmur or complaint, the calumnies of wicked men, you have been raised up by God as the patron and protector of expectant mothers.
Preserve me from danger and from the excessive pains accompanying childbirth, and shield the child which I now carry, that it may see the light of day and receive the purifying and life-giving waters of baptism through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Prayer in Thanks of a Safe Delivery
Good Saint Gerard, patron of mothers, assist me in thanking God for the great gift of motherhood. During the months of my waiting, I learned to call upon you and placed the safety of my child and myself under your powerful protection. The great lesson of your trust in God sustained me; your slogan, "God will provide," became my hope and consolation. I thank God for my child and for motherhood. Help me to prize the great treasure of motherhood and obtain for me the grace to raise my child as a child of God.
Amen.

Prayer for a Special Favor
O Most Blessed Trinity, I your unworthy creature, thank you for all the gifts and privileges which you have granted to Saint Gerard, especially for those virtues with which you have adorned him on earth and the glory which you impart to him in heaven.
Accomplish your work, O Lord, for the greater glory of the Holy Church.
Glorify him before men and women and through his merits, in union with those of Jesus and Mary, grant me the grace for which I ask …(mention your request)
And you, my powerful intercessor St. Gerard, always so ready to help those who have recourse to you, pray also for me.
Prostrate yourself before the throne of Divine Mercy and please do not leave it without being heard.
To you I confide this important and urgent affair.
Graciously take my cause in hand and let me not end this novena without having experienced in some way the effects of your intercession.
Amen.

Prayer for a sick child
O most beloved Saint Gerard, who, like the Savior, loved children and by your prayers freed many from disease and even death, listen to us who are pleading for our sick child. We thank God for the great gift of our son/daughter and ask God to restore our child to health if such be the holy will. This favor we beg of you through your love for all children and mothers.
Amen.

I will definitely share this with Kuya Homer and Ate Vida and with Alex and Aime. I pray that their wives will have a have delivery.

2008 Cute's Blogger Award

Thanks for the tag and the award, Vayie.

Here are the rules:
- Each blogger must post these rules.
- Each blogger starts with ten random facts/habits about themselves.
- Bloggers that are tagged need to write ten facts about themselves.
- You need to choose ten people to tag and list their names.
- Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they've been tagged and also to read your blog.

Here's my share of random facts:

1. Remember the now-defunct Family Feud on ABC 5 (now TV 5 Shake Mo, TV Mo) hosted then by Ogie Alcasid? Yes, that one. Out of boredom, Bru, Eboy, TD, and I joined back in 2001 (or 2002). We lost because I insisted on playing the round instead of passing as agreed. I knew the category well, which was animals on the Chinese astrology. Unfortunately, I was the only one on our team who knew the most. My brother thought the cat was included. Hehehe. In spite of my hard-headedness were doing OK until the last round. The category was "mga gulay na kasama sa pinakbet." That would be super easy sana because we are Ilocanos (born and raised in Manila), unfortunately our opponents were straight from Ilocos Norte (or Sur). Hahaha. We lost. Nonetheless, we had fun and we got to take home a stationary bike, a Guess wristwatch, a portable CD player, and 2 huge bean bags. We're thinking of joining again since the show has been revived on GMA 7 with Richard Gomez as host. Hahahaha.

2. I hate drinking milk. However, according to my mom, I still drank milk straight from the bottle until I was 5. Talk about being a baby damulag. Hahaha. I would go to school and come recess, I'll have my milk. Oh! *blush*

3. Jowell and I's full names, my maiden name at least, have the exact number of letters - 21.

4. For 11 years, I went to the same school, UP Integrated School. Unlike my sisters and my brother who transferred schools whenever we moved houses, I stayed in UPIS.

5. I started blogging on April 22nd 2005. My blog's first home was at Friendster. It has evolved from "The Beautiful Purple Mind of Tintin" to just "Surprisingly Beautiful" when I moved here.

6. I recently realized that I wanted to be an OB Sonologist. I'm not sure if they are considered doctors. Nonetheless, I want to be one. Maybe I'll pursue this after Jowell passes the nursing board exams.

7. Tuesdays are my lucky days. Here's an excerpt lifted from my old blog:

"I consider myself as a Tuesday girl though I was born on a Friday. Fridays child is loving and giving. Oh, well. True enough. Hahaha. Nonetheless, Tuesdays are still my favorite days. I even have a Tuesday prayer. It was taught to me by my cousin, Ate Manel, ages ago.

Oh, dear good Saint Anne
Please give me a wonderful surprise today.
Amen.
(Then, say 1 Our Father, 3 Hail Mary’s, and 1 Glory Be)

According to her, this prayer is better said in the morning or anytime before noon. I’ve recited this religiously ever since I can remember. That’s probably the reason why Tuesday has become my lucky day. Most of the most significant events in my life fell on a Tuesday. Jowell was actually born on a Tuesday and he is my significant other. Now, isn’t that remarkable? Hahaha. Going back, as far as I can remember, I’ve received job offers and signed contracts on Tuesdays. No kidding. The most recent was a call from Tita Precy. Moving on, I first met Jowell on a Tuesday. We became steady, you guessed it, on a Tuesday (July 15, 2003). His first time to come home with me and meet my entire family (except for Papa because he’s working and living out of town) was also on a Tuesday. It wasn’t planned. It just all happened on a Tuesday. It gets freaky sometimes, but when I’ve had a terrible weekend or a bad Monday, at least I always have my Tuesday to look forward to. And, I’ll never run out of luck. There are at least 60 Tuesdays in a year.

I can get married on a Tuesday. And, I wish that all my babies will be born on a Tuesday. And, hopefully I’ll get to rest in peace on a Tuesday, too.

On my tombstone it shall read:

"Of course, Tuesday. I’ m a Tuesday person.""

8. I'm a bag hag. I have quite a collection, but I still don't have the much coveted LVs or Hermès. Oh, I had a drawstring LV monogram back in college, but I'm not 100% sure of the authenticity. It came from the US and smells like real leather, but I'm no LV expert. I have a couple of RLs, a Kenneth Cole, Girbaud, Baby Phat, some Pinoy-made bags, and some brandless finds from the ukay-ukay. I'd like to add a Monogram Canvas Neverfull MM in my humble collection someday.

9. Remember Brylle Mondejar of the That's Entertainment's Tuesday group? I HAD a huge crush on him. Hahaha. Looking back, I can't help but laugh and wonder at the thought.

10. It's been 7 years since I've been credit cardless. I had 3 back then (2 principals and 1 supplementary), but when my entire bag was stolen inside our van, I cancelled everything and did not renew. Now, I'm thinking of getting one that has the lowest credit limit so I can sitll control my spending. Do you think it's a good idea?

Now, I'm sharing the award to:

A Drop in My Happy Hormones

Manang Barang (that's Barbra Streisand for you) was indeed right when she said that some good things never last. J&K transferred my peers to another queue and I so hate them for that. They caused my happy hormones to drop. I'm a very optimistic person. I tend to see most things on the positive side. I'm always the one saying "2 o'clock na" instead of "2 o'clock pa lng". I see the glass as half-full than half-empty. But these J&K made my pastel-colored world dark and bleak! Bumabagyo siguro nung pinanganak sila. Hmpft! And yes, K, I'm bitter. Are you happy?

As Vayie said in her blog, change is inevitable in our industry. But, I suppose change and office politicking are not synonymous. Or are they? Or maybe in our industry there's a very thin line separating the two that it has become blurry and confusing?

Last Monday, J, our team lead met with us and delivered a bad news. She said that 8 of us will be transferred to a different queue. That came as a surprise. She asked us for volunteers, but naturally, no one did. She said that if no one from the night shift will voulunteer, too, she has no choice, but pick the 8 who will be pulled out. I had a feeling that Jen, Vayie, and Khim will be the charmed ones as they speak their minds and I'm pretty sure J&K are scared of them. Bakit nga naman sila mag-aalaga ng pwedeng kumagat sa kanila, di ba? During the meeting, a teammate asked what were the grounds for transferring us to another queue. J did not elaborate. If I remember correctly, she did not even mention a single reason why one of us could possibly be transferred. I suggested to her that why don't we draw lots instead para maski sinong mabunot, eh, hindi maiisip na personal ang decision. Just pure (bad) luck. I know, I'm right. When the 3 were announced, I'm sorry, but I can't help but feel na na-personal nga sila. Is it just a coincidence na puro yung mga "nagsasalita" ang nailipat? I'm not saying na wimps ang mga natira. Let's just say na mas tolerant lng kami sa masasamang ugali. Hahaha.

Khim, Vayie, and Jen: This is not goodbye. We are friends and we will remain friends maski lamunin ng lupa si J&K. To hell with them. Some good things may not last, but our friendships will.

To the rest of Uno Animo (Tin, Dus, Kuya Homer, Alex, Feb, Jhoan, Cyper, and Cai): One team, one goal, one mind. Pinaghihiwalay-hiwalay na nila tayo, but that's the best they can do. No one can put a good team down.

I've said my piece.

Random Thoughts on Saturday

In no particular order.

-Random Thoughts on MiLo-

MiLo is eating solids. He started with Cerelac's Stage 1 Wheat and Milk, but it appears that he's having a slight reaction to wheat. His pedia advised us to shift to the Red Rice variant and avoid soya, too. His pedia-nutrionist had given us the go-signal to feed him papaya, mango, potatoes, fish pero bangus and tilapia lang. He can have beef na din and sabaw of nilaga or tinola. I'm just so glad that he's not a picky eater and he eats with gusto talaga. He enjoys mealtime and is very matakaw, but he doesn't get overly fat kasi he is too active. He's awake most of the time during day and sleeps really well at night. He wakes up once just to drink meal and goes back to sleep in an instant.

MiLo has not started crawling yet, but he can turn to his sides. He prefers to sleep on his right side rather than on his back. He likes to "maglakad-lakaran" na din. He really gets fussy when he's lying down or sitting, gusto nya talagang mag-lakad or lumabas ng bahay. He loves the mall. He likes seeing people in action kasi. He likes interaction. I think he got that from his Yaddy.

He doesn't like toys so much. Mas gusto nyang makinig sa kwentuhan at makipag-usap. This gets a little freaky kasi parang nakakainitindi na talaga siya. Mas gusto pa nyang laruin yung lampin nya kesa sa mga VTech-Vtech andFisher Price na yan. Seriously! He enjoys his lampin so much that it's so funny to watch him.

I got him a Jollibee doll yesterday and dedma lng si bagets. I was telling him na yung ibang bata umiiyak sa mga Yammy nila para bilhan ng Jollibee doll tapos siya na binilhan, dedma. Hehehe. Bagong gising siguro kaya hindi nya na-appreciate.

Ang Jollibee na dinedma.

I encourage you to visit his site for more updates. He "blogs" more than I do. Hahaha.

-Random Thoughts on MiLo's First Halloween-

I think the adults enjoyed this more than he did. In the middle of his Trick or Treating, he fell asleep na. He wore the darling devil costume we purchased from Jing. He was truly a darling. We kept overhearing the people at TriNoma na "ang cute ng baby." As parents, Jowell and I, were just too proud.

I also had my pre-birthday celebration on this day. We had lunch at Teriyaki Boy and muntik na kaming gumapang pauwi dahil sa kabusugan. Hahaha. But that did not stop us from having merienda at Taco Bell.

Lunch at Teriyaki Boy.

Merienda at Taco Bell.

At the end of the day, here's what MiLo got:

Not too much, but the experience was worth it.

-Random Thoughts on MiLo's Christening-

Date: October 25, 2008

Time: 10:00 AM

Ceremony Venue: St. Peter's Parish in Commonwealth Ave., Quezon City

Reception Venue: Don Antonio Heights, Quezon City

I felt more exhausted here compared to my wedding day, but at the of it all, it was worth it. MiLo enjoyed himself, the guests enjoyed, and Jowell and I also had a blast. I'll post a separate supplier's rating one of these days.

-Random Thoughts on Twilight-

I've done reading the Twilight saga of Stephanie Meyer. I love it. Looking forward to the movie and the soundtrack, though I'm not a big music fan.

My favorite among the 4 books is "New Moon" because it got all the elements of a "good" book, at least, in my, eh, book.

I'm hearting Jacob Black more than Edward Cullen. I also prefer Emmett Cullen over Edward. And oh, I truly, truly adore Seth Clearwater especially in his werewolf form.

I scream for Häagen-Daz' Twilight ice cream.

From twilightcovenph:

“Dazzled at First Sight” is a combination of Caramel Apple Crumble and Coffee and is inspired by the first time Bella meets Edward. The sweet temptation of the apple crumble and the rich flavor of coffee make for potent combination that will leave you wanting for more.

“A Kiss in the Meadow” features two contrasting flavors which when combined, produces a most intriguing sensation. The refreshing, slightly tart flavor of Summer Berries is combined with the sweet and creamy Belgian Chocolate. Tasting this flavor combination is one moment you will not want to forget.

“Clair de Lune”
, which represents a significant song in the book and the movie, is a combination of two flavors with very interesting textures. Choc Choc Chip, a chunky chocolate flavor is paired off with the unique, tangy flavor of Mango & Passion fruit.

-Random Thoughts on Work-

We have moved to our new site at The Fort (gilid) last October 27, 2008. It's not as spanking or swanky as they claimed it to be pero kung sa Motalban, spanking nga! Hahaha.

Photos courtesy of Vayielicious.

Commuting to work is a challenge on Mondays, but A-OK during the rest of the week. Commuting from work is relatively easy especially after we have "discovered" our beloved Buting jeepneys.

My team is "squatters" on the floor! Damn it! We were the first team relocated here, but it the end kami ang walang designated stations. As Jen put it, we are nomads. And as Rach said, we are castaways. I could not agree more.

-Random Thoughts on Me-

I have the sniffles since Wednesday and cough since yesterday. I was so tempted not to go work earlier, but I had an EL na last Monday due to the traffic on Commonwealth Ave last Sunday. I got home too late to have the energy to go to work the next day. Call me irresponsible, but I'd rather be resting at home than not being able to do my job efficiently.

I have no plans of filing my EL as our HRD is still in the old office and it's too inconvenient to go there and get a leave form lng. Bawi na lng sa 13th month pay.

And speaking of 13th month pay, I haven't made my "official" shopping list yet, but I have ordered "Firts Christmas" shirts for MiLo and his cousins from Maphine. She was the same person who supplied me with MiLo's "First Halloween" shirt. I've ordered na MiLo's "First New Year" shirt, too.

I'm planning his 1st birthday na din and I'm thinking na double celeb na lng as Jowell will be graduating next year din naman and most probably April din. Our 1st plan was to have it at Shakey's na lng and have some add-ons. But, now we are also considering Jollibee, Don Henrico's, and the Fishing Village at Parks and Wildlife. If we have decided on the budget, we can start our full swing planning na. Wish us luck.

Wow! It's almost EOD na pala. Ciao!

Lactose Intolerant

I need to make this clear first, I have NOTHING against breastfeeding moms especially breast-fed babies. It's just I reached the point where enough is enough. I don't intend to irate BFing advocates, but the ads are really starting to get into my nerves. “Bakit mo papainumin ng gatas ng baka ang anak mo? Baka ba siya?” Hell, no!

See, I wasn't able to breastfeed MiLo. Before giving birth, I was so intent on BFing him that I didn't get bottles until the last leg of my pregnancy. I even bought 3 pairs of reusable disposable breastpads as I was confident that I'll be overflowing with milk. Wrong, I was dead wrong! Some women are lucky to be milk factories, but not me. We tried, I swear. He latched and sucked and few good drops was all he got. I ate malunggay, took supplements, pumped. You cannot even begin to imagine the positions I need to do just to stimulate my milk flow. Yes, I was that desperate.

Seriously.

Yes, I am very much aware of the advantages of breast milk. I've read about it, heard about it, seen it. I was a breast-fed baby myself. But, not being able to breastfeed MiLo doesn't make me less of a mother or make MiLo less of a baby. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. Some BFing advocates send this kind of message across, at least to me, that you are a bad mother for not BFing and that your baby will not grow up healthy and strong. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but motherhood and bringing up a well child is not dependent on breast milk!

MiLo's pediatician, Dr. Ascutia, is a BFing advocate. She encouraged me. As I've said, we tried. However, when I said that it wasn't working for either MiLo and I, she didn't push the issue and most importantly, she didn't make us feel lesser beings for not able to breastfeed. She has gained another notch in the respect department because of that.

Yes, I've envied, past tense, BFing moms. I wanted to be one. It just wasn't for us. Maybe I'll be guilt-stricken if MiLo is not growing up well. He is. Some even thought that he was breast-fed because he is healthy. They are surprised to hear that he is bottle-fed from the beginning. I am MORE surprised to their reactions. Cant' bottle-fed babies be as healthy as breast-fed babies? They, the BFd babies, probably had the advantage of colostrum, but aside from that, it all boils down to how you ACTUALLY look after and care for your baby.

Shoot me!

The BIG Three-O!

I'm thirty years old today and not worried at all. Why would I be? Yes, I'm a year older, but, it also means that I have another year to look forward to. The last 29 years have been good. Not perfect, but the way I just wanted it to be.

My 30th year started with a surprise. I was roused at exactly 12 midnight by my husband Jowell, sisters Chelly and Bru, brother Eboy, and my sister's boyfriend Mhieko's cheerful singing of "Happy Birthday". They even had a cake with a single candle lit. I feel so blessed and loved.
Aside from the singing and the cake, there was pizza and ice cream. The handa was truly simple, but I truly appreciated it. Before that kasi, at around 7PM last night, I was saying to Jowell that this will be the first birthday that I will have no handa. And 4 hours later, there we are, gathered at the dining table and sharing my husband's humble gift to me. I will forever cherish that moment as it was the nth time I fell in love all over again with my husband.

The giddy husband.

No superstitions, please. It's only because I moved too soon. :P

Midnight snack courtesy of my number 1 man.

My cake in my favorite color. Yum!

We still have no plans for later. Maybe more surprises, eh!

(Note: Indeed, there was more! Jowell bought palabok, roasted chicken, and pata hamon for dinner. Yum!!!)

And yes, it's ok to be 30 as long as you look 20! Hahaha.
